About Stargazing Holidays

moon 9th JanThe wonder of the night sky has been a constant since the dawn of civilization. It has inspired countless generations, poets, scientists and dreamers, yet it is estimated that over 85% of the UK population has never witnessed a truly dark sky because of the light pollution that increases every year.

A view of the stars in a truly dark sky is one of the most awe-inspiring experiences we can ever have, and children who grow up without the experience of a starry night miss invaluable opportunities to speculate about larger questions and to learn about the environment and larger world.

stargazingatburnfootWe have our own holiday cottages perfect for stargazing, on the edge of the Europe’s largest Dark Sky Park in Northumberland.  Guests staying with us are rendered speechless by what they see just by looking up, never mind when viewing the universe through our resident astrologer’s telescope.

In late 2013 we created The Cottage Cooperative, which has a number of websites like this one to help guests find the exact type of accommodation they want.

We have restricted membership of the Stargazing Holidays collection to accommodation located within a short drive of a Dark Sky Park, Reserve, Community or Discovery Site recognized by the International Dark-Sky Association or the UK Dark Sky Discovery partnership.

Stargazing experiences offered outside of such protected areas can easily be diluted by light pollution that might not register with you because it will probably be less than where you live.
